Refurbishment Project Transforms Heritage Building into Corporate House

Mei Ee Loh, in collaboration with a talented team, has successfully transformed the Rackson House into a modern corporate space, seamlessly blending old and new architecture. The project, located at Jalan Bagan Jermal, George Town, is a stunning example of old architecture meeting the new, with a focus on maintaining the building's heritage while infusing it with contemporary elements. The project began in 2021 and was completed in December 2021.

The refurbishment project involved carefully maintaining the existing old building, giving it a new lease of life, and bathing it with an abundance of natural lighting in the interiors. The existing building and the new extension are made up of two interlocking programmatic blocks, creating a harmonious blend of old and new elements. The design team maintained a sense of continuity between the old and new by borrowing historic design elements and reinterpreting them in modern ways.

Rackson House, sitting on a 2640m2 land area surrounded by landscaped gardens, features a stunning contrast of transparency and texture, exposing the narrative between the old and the new. The project successfully introduces new materials and features into the space, referencing the existing building's unique characteristics and function of the space within. The result is a captivating space that holds the viewer's attention, harmoniously blending heritage elements with modern design.
