Tick Tock Turtle: A Functional and Beautiful Addition to Any Child's Room

Tick Tock Turtle, designed by Daniel Lau and his team, is a fully modular kids alarm clock with a unique turtle-shaped design. The clock features a patent-pending inner mechanism that hides parental settings buttons inside its shell, while also providing a button for kids. The sunrise lights are activated to illuminate the shell, creating a gradual wake-up effect. The design specifications include dimensions of 200mm x 200mm x 76mm and a weight of 0.47kg.

The clock was designed to be an all-in-one sleep companion, featuring wake-up lights and sleep cycle detection. It is operated by placing it on the mattress next to a sleeping child, where its silicone material allows it to securely stick to the mattress. Parents can access settings hidden under the shell, while children can press the shell as a button to activate the night light function and track the progression of time throughout the night.

The project, which started in April 2017 and was finished in May 2018, was based on market surveys and patent research, with a successful crowdfunding campaign validating the design. The team overcame challenges related to the two-tone silicone outer housing and ultimately produced a single-tone color injection mold with a silicone paint spray overlay to achieve the desired design.

Daniel Lau, the designer of Tick Tock Turtle, is an engineer, entrepreneur, and self-taught designer. Born in California, USA, he has spent over 10 years in the semiconductor and electronics industry. Despite not having a background in design, Daniel's passion for art and model building led him to establish his brand, emagine A, to bring innovative products to families around the world.
