Chun Hsun Huang's Dr Pet project, a commercial space designed in an old residence, offers a unique pet club experience, combining historical value with modern amenities. Completed in September 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan, this project showcases the transformation of an abandoned building into a vibrant pet-friendly space.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Chun Hsun Huang's Dr Pet project involved the conversion of an old two-story brick building, once a residence of wealthy individuals in Taiwan, into a pet club. The design concept aimed to retain the original historical value of the building while incorporating modern pet-friendly features, such as a comfortable pet club with a photo-check-in culture, ingenious product display, and spacious indoor and outdoor areas. The project also focused on creating a child-friendly commercial space that resonates with the client's brand concept and product characteristics.
The design team utilized materials such as brick grille, imitation stone tiles, terrazzo, natural wood veneer, customized furniture, iron, clear glass, sleepers, artificial turf, and stone paint to realize the vision of Dr Pet. The resulting 132.23 square meter layout includes a grass hall, reception area, rest area, live broadcast area, display area, and office, providing a multifunctional space for pet owners and their furry companions.
Despite the challenges posed by the building's age and the need to adapt the layout for commercial use, the project successfully overcame these obstacles, creating a unique pet club that seamlessly integrates historical charm with modern functionality. Dr Pet was recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2021, acknowledging its innovative and practical approach to interior space design.
