Renowned Designer JOYE CHUANG Transforms a Sixty-Year-Old Shophouse into a Flagship Store
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer JOYE CHUANG has unveiled the transformation of a sixty-year-old shophouse into a modern coffee shop in the Chihkan District of Tainan. The project, titled "Scent of a Golden Age," is the sixth franchise store of OH! Café, owned by the World Coffee Roasting Champion (WCRC) of 2014. The design draws inspiration from the Showa era, reimagining an old Japanese house with a refined essence of time.
The space, spanning 158.67 square meters, features a color scheme inspired by the Showa era and the autumn season. A spiral staircase optimizes space and anchors the circulation near the bar counter on the first floor. The design seamlessly integrates various elements, including concrete cylinders, handmade paper umbrellas, aroma areas, and the bar counter, creating a cohesive and visually stunning environment.
The project, which began in April 2019 and concluded in June 2019, presents a harmonious blend of old and new, evoking the cherished ambiance of a traditional Japanese house. The meticulous attention to detail and the thoughtful incorporation of elements such as a small Japanese garden, a raised seating area, and Japanese rush mats showcase the designer's dedication to creating a warm and inviting space.
