Kaiqi Wang's Guang: Handmade Futuristic Neon Yellow Chelsea Boots

Kaiqi Wang, an emerging fashion designer from San Francisco, has unveiled Guang, a revolutionary take on the classic Chelsea boots. Inspired by the Chinese word for 'light', Guang introduces a novel, bright, and futuristic perspective to traditional footwear, while maintaining durability and ease of wear. The handmade boots feature clean geometric lines, neon yellow hues, and reflective details, delivering a rebellious yet aesthetically pleasing design.

Guang is handmade with cowhide and lambskin, boasting reflective bindings and customizable letters on the bootstraps for improved visibility in the dark. The distressed Vibram outsole provides superior traction and comfort, setting it apart from traditional high-heel Chelsea boots. The design measures 85mm x 235mm x 280mm each, offering a unique blend of style and functionality.

Starting the project in September 2019, Kaiqi Wang dedicated extensive time to pattern development and prototype creation to bring Guang to life. The boots were completed in November 2019, representing a fusion of time-consuming craftsmanship and boundary-challenging philosophy.

Kaiqi Wang, known for her passion for sustainable fashion, has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 for the innovative and practical creation of Guang. The award celebrates the boots' integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
