Breaking Conventions with Vortex Fireplace

Dário Sousa presents Vortex, a revolutionary fireplace design that challenges conventional beauty standards. The asymmetrical form, inspired by space deformation, creates a dominant presence, establishing a new paradigm of fire harmony. The Vortex offers two combustion solutions: traditional wood and a bioethanol automatic burner, combining design with the comfort of real flame without emitting smoke, ash, or smells.

Hand-drawn and realized through CAD tech drawing, Vortex is crafted using laser cutting and welding technology, finished with thermo-resistant powder coating painting over its main material, carbon steel. With dimensions of 1620mm x 595mm x 600mm, it delivers a heat output of 5.9 - 10.6 KW and was exhibited at Shelter's New Showroom Presentation in March 2019.

The design process of Vortex involved overcoming challenges related to developing a fireplace that fulfills its primary function of heating while maintaining aesthetic and sustainable aspects. Extensive research was conducted to ensure compliance with legal requirements for integration in public and private spaces, as well as to incorporate an automatic bioethanol burner into a wood combustion product.
