FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seamless Spatial Composition and Environmental Responsiveness

Ryumei Fujiki and Yukiko Sato have unveiled "The House for Contemporary Art," a unique residence designed to resemble a house like an art museum. The structure, located in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, is meticulously planned to provide a seamless spatial composition, allowing visitors to circulate through the spaces and admire the owner’s collection of artwork as if they were passing through galleries in a museum.

The design also addresses the harsh, snowy climate of the Japan Sea coast, with careful consideration for air circulation and environmental responsiveness. The structure is composed of white boxes of varying scales that frame spaces like pictures, offering a visually striking and functional living space.

One of the key features of the design is its response to the environment. The flat roof with no parapet is designed to stay relatively snow-free due to wind action, reducing the need for heavy snow removal. Additionally, the design incorporates elements to encourage natural ventilation, including strategically positioned gardens to create a temperature differential, inspired by traditional design methods used in Kyoto townhouses.

Constructed using reinforced concrete, the one-story residence boasts a site area of 246.48 sqm, a building area of 137.10 sqm, and a total floor area of 135.56 sqm. The design team, including structural and electrical engineers, as well as the contractor and construction managers, collaborated to bring the vision to life.

The House for Contemporary Art was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its exceptional design, seamless spatial composition, and environmental responsiveness. The project stands as a testament to Ryumei Fujiki and Yukiko Sato's innovative approach to architecture and their commitment to blending art, science, and technology in their creations.
