Egemen Kemal Vurusan's Cage lighting series, inspired by the relationship between glass and light, redefines illumination with its unique design and craftsmanship.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Egemen Kemal Vurusan's Cage lighting series is a captivating fusion of art and functionality, reimagining the traditional concept of lighting. The design, born from the interplay of glass and light refraction, aims not only to illuminate spaces but to make them livable, evoking a sense of freedom and organic connection through transparent, warm materials like glass.
The Cage lighting is meticulously crafted using hot glass blowing and metal forming techniques, resulting in amorphous, blown-shaped units that refract light at varying rates, creating an illusionic and crystalline effect. The metal cages, symbolizing freedom, are produced using a traditional mesh system, with one cage, 'pinter,' originally used for fishing, specially crafted by Mediterranean fishermen for the Cage series.
Each lighting unit of the Cage series boasts unique specifications, with designs suspended from the ceiling and those with wooden legs, offering diverse dimensions and forms. The series, first prototyped in Istanbul in 2015, has garnered acclaim, including the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its exceptional artistry and impact on the lighting industry.
Egemen Kemal Vurusan's Cage lighting series stands as a testament to the transformative power of design, turning a simple object like a fish cage into a visual feast of light and shadow, elevating interior design and setting new standards in the lighting industry.
