Froggie: A Desk Lamp Project by Yongwook Seong

Yongwook Seong introduces Froggie, a desk lamp inspired by the "double life" of amphibians, seamlessly blending the boundaries between land and water. The lamp's design draws from the unique breathing mechanisms of frogs, with permeable skin for underwater respiration and nostrils for breathing on land.

Froggie stands out with its innovative representation of a frog's ascent from water, featuring adjustable eyes that serve as lighting sources and an exposed body above the water as its base. The touch sensor buttons on each nostril allow users to control the lights, offering a customizable and interactive lighting experience.

Measuring at 256mm in width, 165mm in depth, and reaching a maximum height of 310mm, Froggie is a testament to biomimicry in design, exploring the translation of amphibians' "double life" into a unique lighting design language. This project, which began and concluded in January 2021 in Banff, Canada, has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2021.

Yongwook Seong, an award-winning designer with a passion for architecture, furniture, and industrial design, has once again demonstrated his creative prowess with Froggie, offering a delightful blend of art, science, and technology in the form of a functional and aesthetically pleasing desk lamp.
