Arts Fund's Visual System for Traditional Chinese Opera Culture

The Arts Fund, in collaboration with the Communication University of Zhejiang, proudly presents a groundbreaking visual system designed by Xuguang Zhu. This project aims to disseminate traditional Chinese opera culture by combining Chinese and Latin characters to create visually stunning posters that showcase the charm of opera culture to a global audience.

The visual system, developed for the China Arts Foundation's Character Design Talent Training Programme, integrates CUZ with traditional motifs of Chinese opera, symbolizing the cultural exchange between East and West. The design, influenced by a Swiss internationalist style, offers a functional and post-modern visual form, breaking new ground in cultural communication.

Utilizing a Swiss internationalist style, the visual framework is both functional and post-modern, allowing the audience to experience the opera through the text and operatic images, effectively conveying the essence of the traditional art form.

The project, initiated in Hangzhou in February 2023, is set to conclude in October 2023. Through a strong visual impact and innovative cultural redesign, the project aims to attract the attention of young people to opera, serving as a continuous promotion of traditional culture.

The project overcame the challenge of integrating post-modern design forms with traditional culture, resulting in a unique visual style that distinguishes it from other activities, enhancing its artistic appeal and brand promotion.

The designer, Xuguang Zhu, hailing from Hangzhou, China, has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2024 for this exceptional project. This accolade celebrates the project's outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in graphics, illustration, and visual communication design.
