EasyMed, an AI-powered mobile application, is revolutionizing healthcare by providing a swift and accurate solution for identifying drug interactions. Developed by Lingshuang Kong, Yumei Feng, and Shichao Wang, EasyMed aims to address the significant risks faced by nearly 500 million older adults globally due to polypharmacy, with a 50% higher chance of adverse drug interactions when using five or more medications. The project commenced in January 2023 and was completed in November 2023.
The AI-powered mobile application, EasyMed, is equipped with an impressive 93% accuracy rate and a comprehensive database covering 200,000 drug-drug pairs and 330,000 drug-food pairs. It offers users the ability to swiftly and accurately identify potential drug interactions, mitigating adverse consequences effectively. Additionally, the application provides functionalities such as drug list management and access to informative articles about polypharmacy, catering to a diverse range of user needs.
Utilizing Figma, the design process focused on accessibility and inclusivity for senior users, adhering to Usability Heuristics, Microsoft Responsible AI principles, and Age-friendly Design principles. The app is responsive for all screen sizes and universally applicable for all Android and iOS phones.
EasyMed offers five main features, including an all-in-one homepage, drug interaction checker, food interaction checker, my drug list & reminders, and an explore section with personalized articles on polypharmacy. The project involved extensive secondary research, qualitative insights gathering, and validation through prototype testing.
Designing AI products and ensuring accessibility were key challenges overcome during the project. The team's dedication to addressing these challenges has resulted in a groundbreaking solution that has been recognized with a Bronze A' Design Award in 2024.
