YI JIAN ARCHITECTS has unveiled the transformation of the 12th Mine Hospital in Pingdingshan, China, into a modern nursing center, seamlessly integrated with the surrounding park. The project, aimed at addressing the needs of the growing elderly population, repurposes the historical hospital into a combined medical and nursing care facility.
The design inspiration stemmed from the site's abundant landscape resources, with a focus on respecting the existing building layout while updating the facade to enhance its appeal. The project's unique approach lies in its integration of environmental sustainability, reuse of old building structures, and emphasis on health-centric features such as natural lighting, ventilation, and green spaces.
The renewal project covers a site area of 10200 m2, with the building area renewed for both facade and interior totaling 3900m2. The design team's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the technical specifications, including a building height ranging from 7.2 to 14.4 meters and a landscape area of 6534 m2.
