Hang Chen introduces a groundbreaking urban pastoral community in Shanghai, designed to meet the needs of "Shanghai drifters" and align with China's carbon neutrality goals.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hang Chen's Urban Pastoral Community is a visionary response to the national strategy of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in China, tailored to the lifestyle demands of "Shanghai drifters" and the urban context of the Shanghai epidemic. The design aims to create a self-sufficient, low-carbon, and energy-regenerative community within the urban landscape.
The project features a progressively layered enclosed building layout, with a ground-level rural living area at its core, extensive vegetable planting coverage, and the use of low-carbon, environmentally friendly materials. These elements combine to foster a harmonious and sustainable living environment.
The innovative design incorporates solar photovoltaic panels, pedal alternators, self-generating electricity floors, and self-luminous concrete, creating a renewable energy system that meets the stringent carbon reduction indicators outlined in China's building energy conservation standards.
With a planned area of 21,480 square meters and a construction area of 53,700 square meters, the Urban Pastoral Community boasts a floor area ratio of 2.5, offering a spacious and sustainable living environment for its residents.
Hang Chen's design promotes community interaction and functionality, with open ground-level rural living and commercial spaces accessible to all citizens while maintaining separate entrances to manage access and prevent interference between external visitors and internal residents. This approach aims to cultivate a strong neighborhood atmosphere and prevent the recurrence of previous incidents during the epidemic period in Shanghai.
The project, which commenced in April 2022 and completed its design phase in July 2022, is now in the preparation stage for construction. It represents a model project for the construction of affordable rental housing in Shanghai, aligning with the city's urban development trends and user needs.
Hang Chen's innovative approach to addressing the challenges of affordable rental housing, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and China's carbon reduction policies has earned the Urban Pastoral Community the Bronze A' Design Award in the Construction and Real Estate Projects category in 2023. This prestigious accolade recognizes the design's outstanding creativity, technical prowess, and contribution to improving quality of life.
