Ribbon: A New Approach to Urban Resting

Renowned designer Di Hu introduces "Ribbon," a revolutionary street bench that reimagines urban resting spaces. Inspired by natural body postures, Ribbon's innovative design seamlessly integrates comfort and aesthetics, offering a unique resting experience for urban dwellers.

Constructed based on five common outdoor resting postures, Ribbon's profile curves are meticulously crafted to provide optimal comfort. The bench's ergonomic design not only enhances the resting experience but also complements street side landscaping, adding a touch of elegance to urban environments.

Utilizing individual wood frame pieces connected by steel rods, Ribbon's design ensures a comfortable and durable resting solution. The bench's unique approach to accommodating various postures sets it apart from traditional street benches, making it an ideal addition to city plazas, community squares, and promenades.

Di Hu, along with the design team, including Yiqing Wu, Canbin Chen, Yeqing Shang, and Wenjing Fang, meticulously researched and observed common resting postures to inform the design process. This attention to detail resulted in a bench that not only prioritizes comfort but also addresses drainage issues, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings.

Recognized for its innovative approach, Ribbon was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2024. This accolade underscores the design's exceptional creativity and its contribution to enhancing urban landscapes and the quality of life for city residents.
