Discover the fusion of contemporary ultra-trail running and WWI heritage in the WWI Cultural Trail, a 94-page map book with a 1:25,000 scale Cartographic Map, designed to showcase the history and beauty of the Alps.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Martino Spreafico's WWI Cultural Trail is a unique map book that seamlessly blends the visual appeal of modern ultra-trail running with the rich cultural heritage of World War I. The book's art direction and graphic design incorporate symbols, fonts, and graphics from the WWI era, reimagined through a contemporary lens. It serves as both a modern outdoor guide and a compelling narrative of the people who fought in the mountains and glaciers during WWI.
The 94-page book, measuring 18.5cm x 23.5cm, features a fold-out map measuring 70cm x 70cm, providing readers with detailed trail information and historical insights. The design process involved leveraging Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, along with QGis for map creation, to infuse the book with a touch of the old-world atmosphere while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
With a team of skilled individuals, including Emanuela Spedicato, Mario Sterli, Matteo Aielli, Lorenzo Bertolini, and Erica Ferrari, the project unfolded over four months in the picturesque surroundings of Valtellina, Valcamonica, and the Dolomites, the very areas that inspired the trail.
The WWI Cultural Trail is a testament to the meticulous research and creative vision of Martino Spreafico, offering a captivating blend of outdoor adventure and historical exploration. The book's unique approach to storytelling and design sets it apart as a must-have for enthusiasts of both outdoor pursuits and cultural heritage.
