The National Gallery of London rebrands its visual identity to enhance global recognition and visibility
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Meng Chu Huang, a recent graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has unveiled a new visual identity for The National Gallery of London, aiming to boost its global recognition and distinctiveness. The rebranding initiative, which commenced in February 2023 and concluded in May 2023, seeks to elevate the institution's visibility and international recognition as a national art gallery.
The new logo, a double "L" frame composed of seven lines, draws inspiration from the museum's extensive painting collection spanning the 13th to 19th centuries. The design aims to ensure instant recognition and foster a lasting impression among audiences, enhancing The National Gallery's global visibility and recognition.
Through extensive research and ideation, Meng Chu Huang crafted a logo that encapsulates the essence of the institute, infusing the collection's essence into the design. The addition of "London" in the logo aims to improve online visibility, addressing the issue of search results often prioritizing galleries from other countries over the London-based institution.
Meng Chu Huang, known for her exceptional branding designs, received the Iron A' Design Award in 2024 for this project, recognizing the innovative and practical nature of the new visual identity. As a multidisciplinary designer, she aims to bridge the gap between society and the beauty of design, fostering greater appreciation and engagement with the creative process.
