Jiayi Li's project "Command Z" visualizes the memory loss process of Alzheimer's patients in a unique book format, combining technology and a poignant love story to raise awareness of the disease.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jiayi Li's "Command Z" project is a groundbreaking endeavor that visualizes the memory loss process of Alzheimer's patients in the form of a book, aiming to raise awareness of the disease. Inspired by the love story of an elderly couple from Taiwan, Li's design uniquely combines the concept of memory loss with the powerful narrative of enduring love. The project was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving quality of life.
Utilizing innovative techniques such as temperature-sensitive inks, pencil print marks, polaroid photos, and even incorporating fire, "Command Z" offers a multi-sensory experience for readers. The book is divided into pre, mid, and post-stages, mirroring the progression of Alzheimer's disease and employing different design approaches for each stage. From the vulnerability depicted through fragile tracing paper to the irreversible nature of burned pages, the design effectively communicates the impact of the disease on individuals and their loved ones.
Jiayi Li, a Chinese student pursuing an MA in Graphic and Visualization at Loughborough University, seamlessly blends traditional art techniques with modern technology in this project. Her dedication to excellence and her ability to authentically capture the experience of Alzheimer's patients make "Command Z" a poignant and impactful design that contributes to making the world a better place.
