Waterlight, a desktop lamp designed by Jiahua Zhang, Nitesh Reddy N, and Kejun Li, offers a new experience in light control, drawing inspiration from the functionality of a water faucet. This innovative design allows users to adjust both the brightness and temperature of the light, creating a dynamic interaction between the user and the product. The project, which began in October 2019 and concluded in January 2020 in Milan, recently received the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2021.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Waterlight, a unique desktop lamp, reimagines the control of light by drawing inspiration from the functionality of a water faucet. Users can adjust the intensity of brightness by turning the control bar up and down, while the temperature of the light can be modified by turning the control bar from left to right. This innovative approach creates an empathetic connection between the user and the lamp, enhancing the overall experience of light control.
The lamp's design incorporates a head fixed with two potentiometers, enabling the adjustment of brightness and temperature through changes in voltage. The use of LED cells on the base provides the light source, while the lamp features wireless charging capabilities for added convenience. Crafted with high-quality bronze, natural marble, and glass, Waterlight embodies a blend of elegance and functionality.
With dimensions measuring 80mm in width, 80mm in depth, and 300mm in height, Waterlight stands as a testament to innovative design and technological prowess. The lamp's unique properties and interaction mechanism set it apart as a truly distinctive addition to any desktop or workspace.
Reflecting on the design process, the team faced challenges in developing the functional potentiometer and circuit to bring their vision to life. Through meticulous research and prototyping, they successfully overcame these obstacles, resulting in a product that offers a seamless and intuitive control experience.
The project, led by Jiahua Zhang, Nitesh Reddy N, and Kejun Li, represents a commitment to creating products that enhance the quality of life through innovative design and technology. The team's dedication to pushing the boundaries of traditional lighting design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2021, further solidifying Waterlight's position as a groundbreaking addition to the world of lighting products and fixtures.
