Discover the immersive and interactive art installation at MRT Jiushe station, Beitun District, Taichung, Taiwan, designed by Yueh Mei Cheng
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Step into the past and present of Jiushe with the interactive art installation "Shang Shui" at MRT Jiushe station. This artwork, completed in July 2022, pays homage to the historic irrigation channel branching off from the Dajia River, bringing prosperity to the area through tobacco cultivation. The installation integrates augmented reality (AR) to engage passengers, offering a unique visual journey through the region's rich history.
The 700cm x 700cm x 507.5cm artwork, crafted from mirror-finish stainless steel sheets, features three interactive AR installations. Passengers can interact with these devices to learn about the area's past glory and capture images that evoke the old stories of Jiushe.
Yueh Mei Cheng, a distinguished professor at Feng Chia University, Taiwan, led the design team, including integrator Boxing Landscape Co., Ltd., producer Ming Yu Hsiao, Yu Chuan Chen, and structure designer Hung i Tai. The installation symbolizes the memories of Old Taichung-Jiushe, blending the hundred-year development history and land memories of Taichung into the art.
