The Yunlin County Government's Environmental Art Event Revitalizes Chenglong Wetland
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Chenglong Wetland, located on the coast of Taiwan, faced environmental challenges due to over-extraction of groundwater. In response, the Yunlin County Government initiated an environmental art project in 2010, inviting artists from around the world to create installation art pieces using local resources. The recent "A Flowing Feast of Arts" event in 2022 showcased the vitality of Chenglong Wetland, promoting local industry and drawing attention to environmental issues, attracting 5,000 participants and generating a tourism economy worth NT$2,500,000.
The combination of ecology and art brought new hope to the wetland, creating a sustainable art village with a focus on ecological conservation and cultural roots. The government's efforts have successfully revitalized the wetland, boosting the local economy and promoting environmental awareness.
The Chenglong Wetland covers 171 hectares and has become the largest environmental art gallery in Taiwan, showcasing the collaborative efforts of local residents and international artists. Through environmental art and artistic activities, the government has effectively raised awareness about environmental issues, leading to sustainable development and economic growth in the region.
