Minimalist and Elegant: The Oco Armchair by Maurício Coelho

Maurício Coelho introduces the Oco armchair, a modern and original furniture design inspired by the search for aesthetic simplicity and originality. The half-sphere shell, made of fiberglass and hollow inside, creates a visually striking yet intriguing aesthetic. The armchair's unique design and production process set it apart from traditional furniture pieces.

The Oco armchair stands out with its non-complex shapes, simple aesthetics, and strong visual impact. The half-sphere shell, available in various finishes, carefully houses the soft and ergonomic upholstery. The laser-cut carbon steel legs, also available in different finishes, add a touch of modernity to the design.

The production process involved creating prototypes for the fiberglass shell, developing the carbon steel legs, and crafting the high-quality, soft foams for the upholstery. The armchair's dimensions are L880 mm x W880 mm x H720 mm, making it a proportional and functional piece of furniture.

The Oco armchair is designed to fulfill its function while evoking contemplation and desire. The soft and ergonomic upholstery, along with the loose backrest cushion, provides comfort and adaptability. The armchair's stability and weight-bearing capacity make it a practical and visually appealing addition to any space.

The development of the Oco armchair began in May 2022 in Sarandi, Brazil, and it was officially launched in January 2023 at a private event in the state of Paraná. The design process focused on achieving a seamless integration of form and function, resulting in a product that embodies aesthetic, material, and functional excellence.

Maurício Coelho overcame several challenges during the development of the Oco armchair, including the lamination of the fiberglass half-sphere and the precise fitting of the shell to the legs. The meticulous attention to detail and dedication to achieving the desired result are evident in the final design.

The Oco armchair represents Maurício Coelho's commitment to creating timeless and authentic designs that prioritize both aesthetics and comfort. The award-winning armchair has received the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category, recognizing its outstanding creativity, technical prowess, and innovative approach.
