FindAir Unveils Smarthaler: The Revolutionary Smart pMDI Inhaler

FindAir, led by Jacek Mikosz, introduces Smarthaler, a game-changing smart pMDI inhaler designed to revolutionize asthma treatment. The device addresses the challenges of conventional inhalers by providing real-time feedback and enhancing drug delivery effectiveness.

The modular smart inhaler features a measurement system that identifies and corrects inhalation errors, improving drug delivery without disrupting the process. The device integrates a verification system directly into the actuator's design, enabling patients to adhere to prescribed therapies while developing correct inhalation techniques habits.

The solution resulted from extensive user research, clinical trials, and collaboration across design, medical, IT, artificial intelligence, and pharmacokinetics fields. The device's electronics integration within a medical-grade plastic enclosure employs precision injection molding, rigorously tested and validated through lab-based pharmacokinetic studies to ensure durability and safety.

The inhaler functions like a regular inhaler but with an added electronic module that provides immediate feedback on inhalation quality. This data is sent to an app for sharing with healthcare providers, facilitating better care.

The project started in May 2021 in Kraków, Poland, and was completed in December 2023 as part of FindAir research supported by a grant from The National Centre for Research and Development. The design is the result of extensive research, including medical experiments, observational studies, and clinical trials.
