Chih-Chien Chen's residential house design, "Contrast of Materials," is a dramatic yet peaceful space that expertly blends artificial and natural, reflective and matte, smooth and rough materials. The project, located in Taipei, Taiwan, was completed in April 2019.

Chih-Chien Chen's "Contrast of Materials" is a one-of-a-kind residential house design that introduces innovative materials and design techniques. The space seamlessly integrates lightweight and thin tiles on refrigerator doors and kitchen cabinets, creating a striking transition between the living room and dining room. The design also showcases cloth patterns, oil paintings, marbles, and gradients through tiles, adding a unique touch to the space.
The project, spanning approximately 250 square meters, features elegant arcs with lamps and ceilings, highlighting the contrast between various materials such as marble and rock, stainless steel and solid wood, and leather and metal. The design team, led by Chih-Chien Chen, meticulously imported kitchenware and combined different materials to achieve a concise and harmonious space.
Chih-Chien Chen's "Contrast of Materials" was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its exceptional creativity and ingenious design that authentically enhances the living experience. The project successfully integrates best practices in art, science, design, and technology, contributing to significant improvements in quality of life.
