Time Capsule: A Creative Solution for Machi Library's Storage Needs

Koichi Namimoto's Time Capsule design offers a unique and innovative solution for the storage needs of the Machi Library in MUFG PARK. Inspired by the need to maintain an intellectual atmosphere while providing practical storage, this package design stands out for its blend of intelligence and fun.

The Time Capsule is not just a visually appealing addition to the library space; it also serves as a means of communication design, allowing users to convey their thoughts and feelings to their future selves or someone special over time.

With a focus on user needs and the challenges of library storage, the Time Capsule is a testament to Namimoto's creative and technical prowess, earning the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2024.

The Time Capsule, designed to resemble a book, addresses the challenge of high bookshelves in the library, making it impossible for users to reach the top. Additionally, the unique natural environment of Japan, with frequent earthquakes, necessitated a design that could maintain the library's intellectual atmosphere while providing practical storage solutions.

Through meticulous simulation of color schemes and materials, the Time Capsule was realized to look beautiful when lined up in the library space. The boxes were manufactured by Morita Corporation, utilizing a combination of machine-made and hand-made parts to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality.

Measuring at 258mm in width, 85mm in depth, and 315mm in height, the Time Capsule is a carefully crafted package design that meets the specific needs of the Machi Library in Nishi-Tokyo City.

As libraries increasingly require attractive designs, the Time Capsule not only serves as a visual design in space but also as a means of communication design, catering to the evolving needs of library users. This innovative approach has earned Koichi Namimoto the Bronze A' Design Award, recognizing the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the Time Capsule design.
