Christine Oehme's Werkelkueche Redefines Play for Children Beyond Gender Stereotypes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Werkelkueche: A Revolutionary Toy for Gender-Neutral Play

Christine Oehme introduces Werkelkueche, a gender-open activity workstation for children, challenging traditional gender stereotypes in toys. The innovative design offers a diverse and inclusive play experience, breaking free from the limitations of gender-specific roles.

Werkelkueche is a fusion of children's kitchens and workbenches, providing a space for open-ended, intuitive play. The curved worktop serves as a sink, workshop, or ski slope, while the side compartments offer storage and baking space. With colorful, interchangeable tools, children can unleash their creativity and imitate the adult world in a playful manner.

The project, initiated in June 2020, was developed as part of Christine's bachelor thesis at the Berlin University of the Arts and completed in December 2020. The design is a response to extensive research with parents, social workers, and educators, aiming to create gender-neutral play experiences for children.

Christine Oehme, a recent graduate from the University of Arts in Berlin, is the creative mind behind Werkelkueche. Inspired by her own experiences as a parent and the societal pressures of gender norms, she aims to revolutionize the world of children's toys. Her passion for craftsmanship and contemporary manufacturing methods has led to the creation of this groundbreaking design.
