Yang Zi Ying's Kouli Design Transforms Educational Spaces

Inspired by the beauty of outdoor landscapes, Yang Zi Ying's Kouli design for an English Language School in New Taipei City reimagines educational spaces as vibrant, interactive environments. The corridor, designed as a playground, features French windows that create an open visual sense, ensuring the space feels expansive and inviting. The corridor's theme of a sports playground fosters a joyful break time for children, seamlessly blending learning and play.

The innovative design features a corridor connected to three buildings, utilizing French windows to extend the visual space from the inside out. The use of environmentally friendly materials, such as formaldehyde-free paint and sound-absorbing boards, ensures a safe and non-interfering learning environment for children. The corridor floor is equipped with a special environmental protection mat, providing both durability and safety for the children's activities.

Despite the challenges posed by the height difference between the three spaces, Yang Zi Ying successfully created a safe and comfortable walking corridor that complies with building laws and cram school regulations. The flexible compartments in the classrooms, along with double doors, allow for an open and adaptable space that extends to the corridor and outdoor areas.

Yang Zi Ying's Kouli design project commenced in September 2022 and was completed in November 2022. In addition to the spatial design, the project also involved the creation of a corporate identity system (CIS) to establish a complete image for the new space. The design prioritizes the children's need for entertainment, providing a safe and engaging environment that connects learning with happy memories.

Yang Zi Ying, the design director and core representative of MadeGo Design, hails from New Taipei City, Taiwan. Her innovative Kouli design was honored with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023, recognizing its outstanding creativity and contribution to improving the quality of life.
