Mecha Uma: Redefining Culinary Experience in Bonifacio Global City

Jorge Manuel Yulo's Mecha Uma is a culinary performance venue located in the heart of Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience, where the chef, barely in his 20s, serves creative Japanese cuisine in a 64 square meter space to two sets of 10 guests each night. The design concept revolves around the idea of creating a narrative from the chef that accompanies each dish of the tasting menu, fostering a cordial environment where neither the chef nor the guest looks up nor down to the other.

The inspiration for Mecha Uma stemmed from the chef's thought process in his open kitchen, surrounded by a counter of demanding diners. The design captures this by incorporating a thought cloud hovering above the chef, reminiscent of comic books. The ephemeral cloud billows above like a cloud, adding a touch of creativity and imagination to the space.

What sets Mecha Uma apart is its raw theme, incorporating materials such as concrete, steel, copper, glass, and wood, mirroring the essence of the food and talent showcased within. The venue's unique properties lie in its intimate setting, where the chef's creativity and storytelling take center stage, offering guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience.

Jorge Manuel Yulo, the visionary behind Mecha Uma, is an accomplished architect with a rich background in design and architecture. His firm, Jorge Yulo Architects and Associates, has a strong portfolio of diverse projects, showcasing a commitment to comprehensive design services and a focus on responsible architecture. Yulo's Mecha Uma was honored with the Silver A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in interior space, retail, and exhibition design.
