Maria-Luisa Uth Unveils Unique Love Letter Design Inspired by Traditional Chinese Love Story
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Maria-Luisa Uth introduces "The Dark Side of the Moon," a unique love letter design inspired by a traditional Chinese love story. Combining print design, storytelling, illustration, and graphic design, the project aims to revive the tradition of writing love letters in a modern context. The letter, folded using a Japanese technique popular in 18th century Europe, unfolds to reveal a captivating story as old as time.
The love letter design is a celebration of traditional Chinese love stories, brought to life through innovative packaging, choice of materials, and graphic design. The unfolding of the letter mirrors the unfolding of the story, creating an immersive experience for the reader.
Constructed using DuPont paper, the design ensures durability and translucency, allowing the two sides of the letter to seamlessly meld when held up to the light. The love letter serves as both a present and a documentation of an ancient love story, offering a unique way to share personal messages while honoring tradition.
As a Chinese/German design studio, Maria-Luisa Uth sought to merge cultural influences in this project. The design is a result of extensive research, rewriting the ancient love story, and carefully selecting materials to bring the narrative to life. The project, which commenced in Hangzhou in August, culminated in the finished design in November.
"The Dark Side of the Moon" was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2023, recognizing its creative ingenuity and contribution to the art, science, and technology of design.
