Fusion Chair: Blending Ming-Style Armchair with Modern Convenience

MengKe Yuan's Fusion Chair is a revolutionary take on traditional Chinese furniture, seamlessly blending the grandeur of Ming-style armchairs with the practicality of modern folding chairs. The chair's unique design aims to infuse classic aesthetics into minimalist modern design, promoting a fusion of classical and contemporary art styles.

The chair's construction involves black walnut for the legs and yellow walnut for the armrests and seat surface, with steam-bent elements for the curved surfaces. The backrest metal and supports are meticulously crafted, showcasing a seamless fusion of metal and wood. The chair measures 780mm×490mm×490mm, with a seat surface of 380mm×365mm.

Part of the opening process retains the convenience of existing folding chairs, while the design also ensures an elegant appearance even in the stowed state. The project commenced in Xiangtan in November 2023 and was completed in Zhengzhou in February 2024.

The Fusion Chair project was driven by a desire to break the inherent impression of folding chairs, infusing elements of traditional Chinese high chairs to create a new design. The team overcame creative and technical challenges to extract traditional Chinese elements and explore their integration with folding chairs, resulting in a chair that embodies a different antique design beauty.

MengKe Yuan's Fusion Chair was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature that meets professional and industrial requirements.
