Gongche Sketch Book by Xueqing Chen

Xueqing Chen's Gongche Sketch Book is an innovative approach to cultural heritage, offering a user-friendly experience that sparks interest in Gongche notation and connects the past with the present. The interactive design allows readers to delve into the culture of Gongche notation, infusing new vitality into this traditional art form. Through a unique paper tape mechanism, the book creates a three-dimensional and dynamic representation, providing a multisensory feast for music enthusiasts.

The book's innovative design facilitates a profound understanding of the charm of Gongche notation among people from different cultures, languages, and eras. It serves as a cultural conduit, allowing the enchanting resonance of Gongche to spread globally. The 30-note hand-cranked music box movement is used as the core mechanism, enabling readers to further understand Gongche from an auditory dimension.

Starting in Nanjing in June 2022 and completed in May 2023, Gongche Sketch Book will be exhibited in Nanjing in May 2023. The project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence.
