Nest: A Captivating Residence Design

Designed by Mysterious Designer, Nest is a stunning residence located in Yilan, Taiwan, inspired by the concept of swallows' return to the nest. The design integrates the owner's preference for a black tile slanted roof and features two slanted roof volumes resembling the wings of swallows, creating a personal residence for the owner's two sons. The use of Yilan's unique seven cent stone and environmentally friendly recycled glass in the roof tiles gives the residence a charming luster, making it a bright light in the wide field.

The design not only extends the outdoor paddy field landscape into the interior but also incorporates multi-level skylights and patios to create a captivating spatial experience. The project, which started in 2015 and was completed in July 2018, overcame challenges such as the suspicion of soil liquefaction and delicate techniques for the roof structure to create a unique and stable residence.

The project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics that contribute to a better world.

In our architectural thinking, we emphasize the impact of individual geographic environments, materials, and special local contexts on architecture. As for space, we try our best to respond to the problems revealed by the facts and solve them. Because we believe that each architectural design is built in a specific place, for a specific purpose.
