Soda Grocery, a project by Shenfan Lan and JingWen Xu, introduces a modern take on traditional Macau firecracker packaging, combining historical elements with contemporary graphic design.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Soda Grocery, a project by Shenfan Lan and JingWen Xu, draws inspiration from the historical significance of Macau's firecrackers to create a unique graphic packaging design. The project, which commenced in March 2020 and is set to conclude in June 2020, aims to revitalize the traditional graphic language of Macau's firecracker packaging with a modern twist. By incorporating bold colors and contemporary illustrations, the design team has successfully transformed the original functions of the products into new, visually striking packaging.
The design process presented several challenges, including the need to retain the regional characteristics of Macau while adhering to modern design language. Additionally, the transition from the original firecracker packaging to packaging for special tourist food posed a significant creative and technical challenge. Despite these obstacles, the team successfully created a design that pays homage to Macau's history while appealing to modern aesthetics.
Shenfan Lan, a postgraduate specializing in graphic design with a focus on traditional Macau history, led the project. His deep interest in the cultural elements of Macau's history and the fusion of Eastern and Western cultures is evident in the innovative design. The project has been recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category, underscoring its practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial standards.
