Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital, a Private Oncology Hospital, Embodies Nature's Healing Power
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AIA Life Designers introduces "Healing in Nature," a groundbreaking approach to healthcare design, seamlessly integrating nature's tranquility with cutting-edge medical facilities. The hospital's architecture, interior, and landscape design converge to create a warm and ecological healing environment, redefining the concept of a garden hospital.
The hospital, located in the heart of the Guangzhou Knowledge City in Huangpu District, China, stands as a testament to the successful realization of a vision that began in 2016 and culminated in its full completion and operational status in 2021. The project encompasses a land area of 26,700 square meters, with the first phase covering 75,000 square meters and planning for 200 beds.
Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital's design is a testament to AIA Life Designers' commitment to promoting architecture with a positive impact on health. The project has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence in healthcare design.
The hospital's unique design incorporates greenery in the entrance courtyard, roof garden, and building facade, seamlessly connecting the entire facility with nature. This innovative concept is realized through the integration of architectural, interior, and landscape design, fostering an efficient and comfortable healing environment.
By leveraging the natural slope of the land and local gardening traditions influenced by the region's subtropical climate, the hospital embodies an eco-design that harmonizes with the site's topography, providing an integral and flexible long-term healthcare solution.
Utilizing a blend of stone, glass, wood, and greenery, the hospital exudes a professional yet friendly atmosphere. The building's facade features sunshade window frames designed for Guangzhou's climate, while the podium showcases curved lines reminiscent of a mountain or rock, adding sophistication to the overall design.
The project's architectural and interior design teams, led by Hai Yang, Simon TSOUDEROS, Dalius GUTAUSKAS, and others, collaborated to create a healing environment integrated with nature. The hospital's three-dimensional gardens and intensive medical space design reflect a meticulous approach to healthcare flow and patient well-being.
Through comprehensive research on the region's natural conditions, topography, and local living habits, AIA Life Designers overcame creative, technical, and research challenges to transform the hospital's site into a warm ecological healing place, where patients heal in nature and doctors work in a garden.
