Peng-Hsu Chen's "The Flow" Transforms Public Space with Water-Inspired Aesthetics
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Peng-Hsu Chen's "The Flow" design project, located in Taipei City, Taiwan, has been awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2023 for its exceptional contribution to interior space, retail, and exhibition design. Inspired by the imagery of water, the design concept integrates the metaphor of time and traffic, creating an ambiance of transparency and flow movement throughout the public facilities space.
The unique feature of the wood grill ceiling, with curved wavy three-dimensional shapes, guides the flow of water from the main entrance to the reception desk, through the lounge, mailroom, and even the underground parking area. Ripples-looked stainless corrugated panels on the side wall and ceiling of the elevator hall further portray the movement of water, adding a dynamic and immersive element to the space.
Chen's meticulous attention to detail is evident in the use of reflective finished walls in the social area, visually expanding the space, and the incorporation of white marble effect ceramic wall tiles at key locations, providing a sense of extension. The design not only prioritizes aesthetics but also emphasizes environmental sustainability, utilizing recyclable materials and locally designed and produced tiles to reduce the carbon footprint.
Overcoming challenges such as building width limitations, Chen strategically employed fire-rated glass windows and doors to elongate the space and enhance security at the reception. The result is a harmonious blend of creativity, technical innovation, and environmental consciousness, making "The Flow" a standout project in the realm of public space design.
