SPACE10's SolarVille: A Prototype for Democratising Access to Clean Energy

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SolarVille: A Revolutionary Prototype for Sustainable Energy Communities

SPACE10 introduces SolarVille, a groundbreaking prototype designed to democratize access to clean energy and empower local economies. SolarVille combines solar panels with blockchain technology to create cooperative micro-grids, making clean energy affordable and accessible. The fully functioning 1:50 scale model showcases households as makers and traders of clean energy, fostering self-sufficiency within the community.

By outfitting houses with rooftop solar panels and utilizing blockchain technology, SolarVille creates a tamper-free, secure, and decentralized energy system. The project, initiated in September 2018 and launched in February 2019, is set to tour various global locations, starting at the UN Habitat in Nairobi. Alongside the prototype, SPACE10 has released a report titled 'A Brighter Tomorrow', providing insights into the research behind SolarVille and advocating for solar power as a sustainable energy source to combat climate change.

The design team overcame challenges by developing an inclusive architectural language that resonates with diverse cultural contexts, ensuring SolarVille's relevance on a global scale. Recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in 2020, SolarVille stands as a testament to innovative design, technical prowess, and its potential to improve quality of life.
