Waterfrom Design's Nic Lee Unveils Innovative Sales Center Inspired by 11th-Century Chinese Gardens

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Waterfrom Design's Park Lane Complex

Waterfrom Design presents the Park Lane Complex, a sales center in Dongguan, China, designed by Nic Lee. Inspired by 11th-century Chinese gardens, the complex aims to blend tradition with contemporary adaptability, creating a refined cultural hub strategically positioned near a subway exit and central park. The project, started in January 2022, is set to be completed in May 2023, covering an area of 2400 square meters.

The large-scale development stands out with its unique approach to spatial design, emphasizing experiential flow over efficiency. The indoor volumes are stacked flexibly, departing from linear pathways, and the ground-level floors are indented to create pedestrian space. The design aims to infuse a garden-like charm into the modern sales office, creating an immersive environment that accommodates user behavior flexibly.

Materials such as stone, symbolizing rugged mountains, are meticulously arranged to emit shades of green, teal, and blue, reflecting the overall tones of outdoor greenery. The complementary hues of gray, white, and various greens echo through the architectural gaps, creating a restrained elegance down to the last detail. The project is intended to operate for a decade before being handed over for sustainable community use, with plans to incorporate green belts to connect the streets, balancing the ratio of nature to civilization.

Nic Lee, the design director of Waterfrom Design, has been recognized for his work mixing extreme simplicity with humor. With a Master of Science in interior design from the Pratt Institute, New York, and participation in Denmark's International Study Program, Nic Lee's design philosophy integrates thinking from the arts, humanities, and philosophy, redefining the current order and finding the unexpected within unpredictable inaccuracies. The Park Lane Complex has been awarded the Bronze A' Design Award for Best Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design in 2024, acknowledging its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that blends tradition with contemporary adaptability.
