Elliott Architects Revives Abandoned Yacht Club into a Luminous Coastal Residence

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Old Yacht Club Renovation Project

Elliott Architects successfully transformed an abandoned Yacht Club, built in 1919, into a stunning private residence, preserving its historical significance while modernizing its structure.

The project, located in Blue Hill, Maine, involved the replacement of a corner of the Club Room with large sliding glass panels and the addition of two glass dormers, allowing natural light to illuminate the house throughout the day and creating a luminous beacon on the coast at night.

The renovation maintained the original footprint and height, reusing the original stone, framing, and wall finish from the Club Room. The project started in 2018, with construction commencing in the spring of 2020 and completing in the summer of 2023.

The project team, led by Principal-in-Charge Matt Elliott, AIA, included Project Architect Corey Papadopoli, NCARB, and Project Designers Buzzy Cyr, Maggie Kirsch, and Elise Schellhase. The design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024 for its outstanding and creatively ingenious transformation.

Elliott Architects' commitment to restoring historical memory while modernizing the early 20th-century structure has resulted in a remarkable architectural achievement, showcasing the firm's dedication to preserving and revitalizing historic landmarks.
