Haiwei Wang's The Growth Curve

Haiwei Wang's The Growth Curve is a revolutionary fashion design inspired by 3D modeling structures and future technology. The garment's supporting frame, made of fishbone, and elastic fabric wrapping, create an organic and flexible form, providing endless possibilities for wearers. The design's unique properties lie in its 3D "soft sculpture" structure, lightness, breathability, and the ability to expand and deform, offering various wearing methods while minimizing fabric waste.

The realization technology involves the use of fishbone and elastic fabric to shape the garment's form, with a focus on mechanics and sustainable production. The design's specifications measure at Width 400mm x Depth 350mm x Height 1750mm, and it was created in Guangzhou from October 2018 to April 2019, with an exhibition in Beijing in May 2019.

This innovative fashion design introduces a variety of clothing models through its unique structures, combining fishbone and elastic fabric to create a second layer of soft skin. The design's deformable structure allows for rapid prototyping of complex shapes and structures, fundamentally achieving a three-dimensional shape of clothing.

Wang's research and practice on clothing structure and materials aim to promote green design in the clothing industry, reducing material waste and innovating clothing functions. The project faced challenges in transforming 2D patterns into 3D structures, leading to unexpected yet exciting possibilities in clothing modeling.

The Growth Curve's innovative approach to sustainable, deformable clothing has earned Haiwei Wang the Golden A' Design Award in 2021, recognizing the design's outstanding impact on the fashion industry.
