Art Sculpture "Butterfly And Lady" by Kai Mao

Kai Mao's "Butterfly And Lady" draws inspiration from the philosophical relationship between humans and nature, symbolizing transformation and the transient beauty of life. The sculpture, completed at the end of 2022, participated in the Hong Kong FINA ART ASIA art fair in October 2023 and was selected as the exhibition poster. Limited to 8 editions, one was successfully sold at the Hanhai Auction in Beijing, China in December 2023.

The sculpture distinguishes itself with its intricate design and profound symbolism, skillfully integrating butterflies around the figure of a woman, signifying freedom and transformation. The artist has used the lost wax method of traditional bronze sculptures, with a thermal coloring process to create a marble-like texture on the bronze surface and a gold-like material for the butterflies, creating a striking contrast with the base.

From a technical standpoint, the sculpture demonstrates masterful casting skills and material manipulation, showcasing a reverence for traditional craftsmanship blended with modern innovation. "Butterfly And Lady" serves not only as an art sculpture piece but also as a philosophical contemplation on dreams and liberty, reflecting the artist's interest in humanity's connection with nature and the contrast between art's durability and nature's transience.
