Historical Building Restaurant Last Romance by ZHEN-XI,PANG, China University of Technology

ZHEN-XI,PANG from China University of Technology has transformed a historical building into a unique restaurant and art space, Last Romance. The building, once the residence of Xu Baiyuan, former president of the central bank, has been revived as the CEO 1950 President Art Space, offering a new angle to review the past and immerse in history.

The historical building remains multiple old-time traces, connecting them together to provide a new perspective on the past. The space aims to allow people to immerse in the river of time with all their senses, offering a unique experience of history. The project has won the Bronze A' Design Award for its outstanding and creatively ingenious design.

Located at No. 24, Ln. 62, Sec. 3, Xinsheng N. Rd., Zhongshan Dist., Taipei City 104, Taiwan (R.O.C.), Last Romance spans a total of 370 square meters across upper and lower floors. The project has successfully overcome the challenges of preserving historical buildings with artistic and cultural value, contributing to the preservation of Taipei's historical heritage.

The design team, led by ZHEN-XI,PANG and HUI-WEN,HSIAO, utilized techniques such as reprint, handmade, reflection, and special painting to reborn the old house, reflecting history while giving it a new breath from generations. The space features textured hexagon tiles, retro tile mosaic, carve plastic tiles, and special painting techniques, along with copper strip and cast iron against culture heritage base, creating a unique and warm ambiance.

With the Last Romance project, ZHEN-XI,PANG and the China University of Technology have successfully created a space that not only preserves history but also offers a new perspective on historical buildings, contributing to the cultural and artistic value of Taipei City.
