Riccardo Petruzzelli introduces Echos, an innovative electric charging station designed for the smart cities of the future, offering on-demand, autonomous, and flexible charging solutions.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Riccardo Petruzzelli unveils Echos, an electric charging station designed to meet the needs of sustainable urban development in smart cities. The project aims to address the electrification process and expand the charging network in a flexible and accessible manner.
Echos is an autonomous, mobile, and on-demand charging station that provides a robotic charging experience, untethered by a fixed position, making it simple and accessible at any time.
The project utilizes the "Design Thinking" approach to research and analyze problems, intervening in processes to find new opportunities for improvement. The materials chosen prioritize sustainability, with the structure made of recyclable aluminum and the shell composed of strong, recycled ABS.
The Echos charging station features a Lithium Ferrophosphate battery with 32 cells, providing 21.3 kWh of energy. It operates on direct current (DC) and offers wireless charging capabilities through solar cells. The station is equipped with a 3000 F supercapacitor, a 250 W motor in the front wheels, and 10-inch airless tires.
Users can request an Echos device via an app, and upon arrival, the autonomous robot locates the vehicle using GPS data and initiates the charging process. Once charging is complete, the user is notified, and Echos autonomously returns to the nearest hub.
The Echos project, which began in November 2021 and concluded in September 2022, was supervised by architect Alessandra Rinaldi and engineer Alberto Reatti. The design process involved empirical research methods, including observation, experimentation, and user behavior analysis.
Riccardo Petruzzelli, a precise and professional designer from Andria, Italy, has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award for Echos, showcasing his commitment to innovation and sustainable design. His perseverance, technical expertise, and customer-oriented approach have contributed to the creation of Echos, a pioneering solution for electric vehicle charging in smart cities.
