Diego Guayasamin introduces UNASUR, a groundbreaking architectural project located in Quito, Ecuador, designed to symbolize freedom and innovation while addressing environmental and social needs.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Diego Guayasamin, in collaboration with architects Pablo Espinoza and Alejandro Garcia, has unveiled UNASUR, an iconic institutional headquarters located in Quito, Ecuador. The design of the building is inspired by the unique geographical location of Quito, with a focus on creating a space that integrates with the surrounding environment while symbolizing freedom and innovation.
The building's design is characterized by its unique spatiality, tectonics, and program, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and biophilic design. The use of double insulated dark glass, passive sustainable strategies, and on-site materials reflects the commitment to mitigating the building's carbon footprint.
Structurally, UNASUR features a solid core of reinforced concrete and large metal trusses, resulting in a cantilever system that spans 56 meters without support, making it the largest of its kind in South America. The building also incorporates open spaces for the community, library and recreational areas, contributing to the development of the sector and tourism in the city.
Diego Guayasamin, known for his highly innovative and conceptual architectural designs, has once again pushed the boundaries of art, science, and technology with UNASUR. The project has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum A' Design Award in 2021, highlighting its exceptional and highly innovative design that contributes to societal wellbeing and advances the boundaries of architecture.
