An ethereal art installation titled "Skin" by Maja Kirovska was showcased at the Youth Cultural Centre in Skopje from 18 to 30 of October 2023, as part of the "Regeneration" exhibition.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Maja Kirovska's "Skin" is an art installation comprising three airy human figures made of light natural material - leaf skeletons. These figures resemble costumes that follow the anatomical shape of the body, lacking limbs and heads, akin to ancient sculptures. The transparency of the figures evokes the shedding of snake skin, symbolizing growth and transformation.
What sets this art installation apart is the use of leaf skeletons, the circulatory system of tree leaves, to create human-sized figures that seem to float in free space. The leaf skeletons were colored and aligned to accentuate the anatomical shape, resulting in a unique and visually striking installation.
The art installation was created for the "Regeneration" exhibition, showcasing the innovative technique of creating textile-like ethereal objects from natural materials. The process involved extensive material testing, bonding material experimentation, and multiple prototypes to achieve the desired effect.
