Anze Sekelj's HEX cor is a digital polyphonic synthesizer with a capacitive keyboard, potentiometers for signal modulation, and an adaptable looper. The instrument, also available as a DIY kit, is optimized for educational and performative use, with 100% replaceable components prioritizing the right to repair and sustainable long-term use. The tidy, minimalist interface is designed for tactile and visually impaired users, supported by a CNC engraved wooden base for protection.
With dimensions of 130mm x 130mm x 35mm and a weight of 170g, the HEX cor is portable and versatile, suitable for diverse contexts. Its UI consists of concisely annotated interactive components and a capacitive touch-sensitive keyboard located on the PCB, reducing size, enhancing mobility, and lowering costs. The DIY kit packaging dimensions are 180mm x 260mm x 10mm, while the assembled packaging dimensions are 180mm x 260mm x 35mm.
The development of HEX cor began in Ljubljana, Slovenia in 2020 and was finalized and released in early 2023. Since then, it has been showcased at numerous venues and used in various educational workshops. The instrument aims to introduce audiences of various ages and backgrounds to contemporary electronic music and its underlying technologies through workshops and DIY techniques.
HEX HAUS is a collaborative project by media artists Anže Sekelj and Staš Vrenko, focusing on creating didactic, affordable, portable, and intuitive electronic devices that cross the boundaries of music-making, play, and education. The goal is to introduce audiences to electronic music through workshops and DIY techniques, with 100% replaceable components prioritizing the right to repair, ease of assembly, and sustainable long-term use.
