TPH Cypress: A Modern Tissue Paper Holder

OTAKA NORIKO, a renowned designer with 30 years of experience in leather product design, introduces TPH Cypress, a modern tissue paper holder made from Japanese cypress. Inspired by the delicate craftsmanship of Japanese artisans, TPH Cypress combines traditional techniques with modern design to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing paper holder.

TPH Cypress boasts a simple and minimal shape, with paper sandwiched between two inverted V-shaped trays, allowing for smooth removal. Crafted using the traditional "Hikimage" technique by Japanese craftsmen in Kiso Town, Nagano Prefecture, this paper holder is not only visually appealing but also highly antibacterial, thanks to the unique properties of Kiso cypress.

With dimensions of W260 × D145 × H80 mm, TPH Cypress is a perfect blend of form and function, offering a refreshing scent and a healing effect, creating a relaxing space in any environment.

The project commenced in April 2019 in Kisohirasawa, Nagano, with the sample completed in October 2019. TPH Cypress was announced at the OMOTENASHI selection venue in December 2019, receiving accolades for its innovative design and craftsmanship.

OTAKA NORIKO's commitment to preserving traditional Japanese techniques is evident in the realization of TPH Cypress. The use of the "Hikimage" technique, which involves making a cut in a tree and bending it, showcases the designer's dedication to reviving environmentally friendly and natural production methods.

TPH Cypress has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2021, highlighting its exceptional creativity and technical excellence. This award-winning design exemplifies OTAKA NORIKO's commitment to producing high-quality, unique products that blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.
