Enrique MÃnguez Ros presents the Whale Tail Bench, a stunning piece of urban furniture inspired by the ocean, designed to bring elegance and functionality to urban and natural environments.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Enrique MÃnguez Ros introduces the Whale Tail Bench, a unique piece of urban furniture that draws inspiration from the iconic image of whale tails in the ocean. This sitting bench offers a blend of elegance and sobriety, suitable for both urban and natural settings. The design allows for various material options, including fiberglass reinforced with wood or concrete, and even recycled plastic, providing a sustainable seating solution that can withstand up to 310kg. The Whale Tail Bench measures 80cm in width, 54cm in depth, and 51cm in height, with a smooth transition from the tail to the base.
Featuring a single support design, the Whale Tail Bench can be placed individually or in small groups, resembling the vision of a single whale or a pod swimming in harmony. Its ergonomic shape and versatile material options make it a perfect addition to seafronts, ports, parks, squares, streets, and boulevards, offering both functional seating and aesthetic value as a sculptural element when unoccupied.
The design process involved extensive research and development, utilizing Design Thinking Methodology to ensure a strong connection to the sea and marine life. The Whale Tail Bench project commenced in September 2019 and was completed in March 2020 in Cartagena, Spain. It was later exhibited in the port of Cartagena in June 2020 and has been proposed for installation in a large-area shopping center.
Enrique MÃnguez Ros's innovative approach to urban furniture design has garnered recognition, with the Whale Tail Bench receiving the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Garden and Outdoor Furniture Design category in 2021. The designer's commitment to creating furniture that evokes diverse emotions in urban and natural environments is evident in this remarkable piece.
