Majestic: A Unique Two-Family Residential House

SHUNSUKE OHE's Majestic is a two-family house designed for different generations to coexist harmoniously. Situated on a sloping site in Nara, Japan, the building features a unique entrance on the second floor, creating the illusion of a one-story house from the facade. The exterior boasts natural slate stone, marble tiles, wooden latticework, and white paint, while the interior exudes a bright and fresh ambiance with white and wood grain accents.

The two-story, wood-frame building stands out with its imposing facade design, featuring black natural stone finishing and eaves reaching a maximum of 2 meters in height. The innovative design allows for the seamless coexistence of family members from different generations, with a private room for the elderly mother and shared living spaces.

Utilizing advanced technology, the exterior and interior finishes include materials such as Galvalume steel sheet, porcelain tile, slate stone, and wood, creating a unique and inviting living space. The site spans 233.3 sqm, with a total floor area of 144.8 sqm, making it a remarkable residence in the heart of Nara.

From August 2022 to January 2024, SHUNSUKE OHE meticulously crafted Majestic, overcoming challenges posed by the sloping site to create a functional, beautiful, and universal design. The project received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding and creatively ingenious design that contributes to quality of life improvements.
