William Jr Ti Unveils Revolutionary Stadium Project in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Renowned designer William Jr Ti has unveiled the groundbreaking Ferdinand E Marcos Stadium, a revolutionary project redefining public space in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. The stadium, designed as a multifunctional community hub, offers sports, arts, and daily activities, seamlessly integrating cultural elements and enhancing usability. With a seating capacity of 12,000 people, the stadium operates as an open, barrier-free space accessible to everyone, fostering community engagement, tourism, and cultural preservation.
Ti's vision for the stadium was inspired by the need to create a truly public space, free from the barriers that often limit access to such facilities. The design incorporates a sloping lawn, an amphitheater, and a promenade, seamlessly connecting the stadium with the adjacent park and the university, transforming it into an integral part of the campus. The underside of the seats covers warm-up tracks that are open for public use, reflecting the ethos of social architecture that aims to serve and include all members of the community.
Constructed entirely by local builders, architects, and engineers, the stadium stands as a sustainable and environmentally conscious project, built for $20 million without foreign loans or increased taxes. The use of locally sourced materials and traditional design elements, such as the locally produced PVC roofing sheets featuring a traditional Binakol pattern, pays homage to the region's cultural heritage and identity.
Recognizing the significance of the project, the A' Design Award honored the Ferdinand E Marcos Stadium with the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2024, acknowledging its remarkable impact on art, science, design, and technology.
