A Sleek and Stylish Ceramic Pet Bowl for Dogs and Cats
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kayoko Nishii's "Paw Bowl" is a sleek and stylish ceramic pet bowl designed to slow down the eating pace of pets, preventing regurgitation and promoting healthier eating habits. The unique inner "paw" designs are raised to slow a pet's eating and add a touch of personalized charm. The bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe, making them convenient for pet owners. The project, which started in April 2016 and finished in October 2020 in Pennsylvania, United States, was recently exhibited at ARTSPACE 1241 in November - December 2020.
The Paw Bowl is the recipient of the Iron A' Design Award in the Pet Care, Toys, Supplies, and Products for Animals Design category in 2021, recognized for its well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
The sleek and stylish pet bowl features two types of unique inner "paw" designs, with one design raised to slow a pet's eating and the second subtly showing like a pet's signature to bring a smile to the user's face. The side grooves make it easier for the user to pick up the bowls, and the smoothness of the material and design of the paw prints allow for easy cleanup. The color of the paw print can be personalized to make the appearance of the bowl stand out.
The Paw Bowl is made from stone clay, making it heavy, strong, and durable, while also safe for use with food. The exterior curves reduce the chance of pets picking up and overturning the bowl, and the material is thick and heavy enough, along with extra foot pads, to prevent pets from pushing the bowl away and scratching floors. The bowl is perfectly designed on the sides to make it easier for someone to grab and lift the bowl.
Kayoko Nishii's design process involved creating a design image hand-built by clay, followed by digital modeling, 3D printing, and the attachment of a hand-built paw sculpture. The bowls underwent user testing and research to improve the glaze for the color. The ceramic bowls come in two sizes, with the small bowl measuring exterior 45 mm H Ã 125 mm W (diameter) and interior 28 mm H Ã 90 mm W, and the medium bowl measuring exterior 67 mm H Ã 185 mm W (diameter) and interior 40 mm H Ã 137 mm W.
Kayoko Nishii, based in Philadelphia, United States, has a passion for exploring how design contributes to organizations. She uses her ceramic skill to help her community garden get organized and teaches other gardeners to create signs. Nishii has made pieces for commission and often donates to organizations that sell her work to help their causes. Volunteering has always been a part of her life, starting many years ago when she was in Japan, where she worked weekends helping autistic adults become independent in life with activities like cooking, shopping, and physical activities for health. Nishii has also worked at a planetarium to make seasonal films.
