Bojun Liu's One Barbecue

Bojun Liu's One Barbecue project in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, is a revolutionary take on traditional north-east barbecue culture, offering a unique and vibrant dining experience. Inspired by the local culture and lifestyle, the restaurant aims to bring new life to the traditional north-east barbecue, infusing it with youth, vitality, and trendiness. The 1000 square meter space is designed to create a richer, free, and multi-level dining environment, providing a comfortable leisure experience for patrons.

The design features mottled and exposed industrial-style cement walls, combined with industrial-style cast aluminum rework wall lamps, creating a natural and unintentional "boldness" feeling. The straightforward expression and material authenticity vividly showcase simplicity and ruggedness, enhancing the spatial extensibility. The project, which started on April 1, 2023, and ended on May 1, 2023, was realized in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China.

Bojun Liu's One Barbecue project faced challenges such as the low height of the second and third floors, which were overcome by sacrificing part of the third floor slab and implementing a pilotis design to introduce more light into the interior. The design also readjusted the layout of the kitchen circulation on the second floor to maximize the use of space. The project was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2024, recognizing its outstanding expertise and innovation in redefining north-east barbecue culture.
